Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions. I have answers.

Working with a stylist can feel a little intimidating—especially if you've never done it before. Maybe you're wondering what you'll wear, whether I'll make you clean out your entire closet, or whether you actually have a personal style.

Spoiler alert: you do.

Here are some of the questions I hear most often. If yours isn't here, don't hesitate to reach out!

Choosing Your Service

How do I know which service is right for me?

It depends on what you're hoping to accomplish!

If your closet feels overwhelming or you're not wearing the clothes you already own, a Wardrobe Edit may be the perfect place to start.

If shopping is where you get stuck, Guided Shopping gives you the opportunity to shop with an experienced stylist who can help you make confident choices.

If you're struggling with color, Custom Color Analysis will help you understand the colors that work best with your individual coloring.

And if you're ready to put it all together, the Complete Styling Package gives us the opportunity to work on multiple areas of your style journey.

Still not sure? That's okay! Reach out and I'm happy to help you figure out where to begin.

What if I need help with more than one thing?

That's very normal!

Your wardrobe, personal style, colors, body proportions, and shopping habits are all connected. Sometimes one session naturally leads into another.

That's one reason I offer individual services as well as the Complete Styling Package. We can focus on exactly what you need rather than forcing you into a one-size-fits-all approach.

Do you offer virtual styling?

Yes! Some services can be done virtually, which means you can work with me from wherever you are. I typically serve in-person clients in around San Antonio, Bulverde, and the local Hill Country area. However, I am able to travel outside my typical service area for a travel fee. However, most services can also be accomplished via Zoom as well.

Virtual sessions are designed to give you the same thoughtful, personalized guidance while working within the realities of your location, schedule, and wardrobe.

Color Analysis

Do you do seasonal color analysis?

No!

My approach to color is a little different from traditional seasonal color analysis.

Rather than placing you into a specific “season,” I look at your individual coloring and help you understand which colors, tones, and combinations make you look and feel your best.

The goal isn't to fit you into a category. It's to help you understand your colors and how to use them confidently.

What should I wear to my color analysis?

Please wear a white top and arrive with no makeup so I can see your natural coloring as clearly as possible.

And don't worry—you don't have to go makeup-free for the rest of the day!

You're welcome to bring your makeup with you and put it on after your color analysis.

Will I receive something to take with me?

Yes! When applicable, your session includes a personal color swatch fan to help you reference your colors when you're shopping and getting dressed.

It's designed to be a practical tool you can actually use in your everyday life—not something that gets tucked away in a drawer and forgotten.

Your Wardrobe & Personal Style

Are you going to make me get rid of everything in my closet?

Absolutely not!

Your wardrobe is yours, and you always make the final decision about what stays and what goes.

I'll give you my professional perspective and help you understand what's working, what isn't, and why. But I'm not there to stand over you with a trash bag.

The goal is to help you make thoughtful decisions about your clothes—not make those decisions for you.

What if I feel like I don't have any style?

You do.

Style is simply what you like.

The colors, shapes, fabrics, silhouettes, details, and overall looks you're naturally drawn to are all clues about your personal style.

Everyone has preferences, which means everyone has style. Some people simply need a little help deciphering what those preferences are and figuring out how to create the look they like for themselves and their bodies.

You are not hopeless. You're not “bad at clothes.” And you're certainly not someone who “just isn't stylish.”

You may simply need someone to help you connect the dots.

Should I lose weight before I work with you?

No. Please don't wait.

You don't need to change your body before you deserve to feel good in your clothes.

In fact, one of my favorite parts of this work is watching clients become more confident in themselves exactly as they are.

My job isn't to dress the body you hope to have someday. It's to help you understand and appreciate the body you have right now and find clothing that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and like yourself.

There is no “right” size for style.

Will you help me dress for my body?

Yes—but not in the “here's how to hide your problem areas” kind of way.

I'll help you understand proportion, fit, silhouette, balance, and what makes you feel good in your clothes.

Your body isn't a problem that needs to be disguised. It's simply the body we're dressing.

Shopping

Will you work within my budget?

Absolutely.

Your budget is an important part of the styling process, and I will always honor it.

I'll tailor recommendations and your shopping experience around your budget, your lifestyle, and your priorities.

You don't need an unlimited clothing budget to have great style. In fact, learning how to shop intentionally within a budget is one of the most useful style skills you can develop.

Do I have to buy anything during a shopping session?

No.

Working with me isn't about convincing you to buy things. It's about helping you make confident, informed decisions.

If something isn't right for you, your body, your lifestyle, your wardrobe, or your budget, you don't need to buy it just because I suggested it.

Are clothing purchases included in the session price?

No. Your session fee covers my professional styling services and, when applicable, your personal color swatch fan.

You are responsible for the cost of any clothing, accessories, shoes, or other items you choose to purchase.

I'll help you shop thoughtfully and strategically, but you are always in control of what you buy.

Will I be able to shop without you after we work together?

That's the goal!

I don't want you to feel like you need me every time you get dressed or go shopping.

My goal is to teach you the skills you need to understand your body, your personal style, your colors, and what actually works for you so that you can make confident decisions on your own.

Of course, you're always welcome to work with me again when you want an expert eye—but I want you to leave our time together feeling more capable, not more dependent.

Working Together

What happens after I book?

You'll receive confirmation and any information you need to prepare for your specific session.

Before your appointment, you'll also have the opportunity to review my Client Agreement & Policies, which cover things like scheduling, cancellations, payment, packages, and follow-up questions.

My goal is for you to know what to expect before we ever meet.

What should I bring to my session?

That depends on the service you've booked, and I'll let you know what you need to bring or prepare beforehand.

If you're unsure about something, just ask! I'd much rather have you reach out than spend your time wondering whether you've prepared correctly.

Can I ask questions after my session?

Absolutely!

You have 14 days (2 weeks) following your session to email me with follow-up questions that directly relate to the session(s) you booked and the topics we discussed during those sessions.

This is a great opportunity to clarify something we talked about, ask a follow-up question about a recommendation, or make sure you understood how to apply what we covered.

Questions or requests that fall outside the scope of your original session—such as new wardrobe recommendations, additional styling work, or a new project—may require booking an additional session.

What if I need to reschedule?

Life happens!

You can reschedule your appointment without penalty as long as you make the change at least 48 hours (2 days) before your originally scheduled appointment.

If an emergency comes up within that 48-hour window, email me as soon as possible at laura@wherelifemeetsstyle.co. Emergency situations are considered individually and at my discretion.

For complete details, please see my Client Agreement & Policies.

A Few More Things You Should Know

Do I need to have a big wardrobe to work with you?

Not at all.

You don't need a huge closet, a designer wardrobe, or a particular budget to benefit from styling.

Sometimes having less to work with is exactly why styling guidance is helpful. We'll focus on what you actually need and what makes sense for your life.

Do I need to know anything about fashion before working with you?

Nope.

You don't need to know the difference between a bootcut and a boyfriend jean. You don't need to know your body shape. You don't need to know what colors look best on you.

That's what I'm here for.

Come as you are, bring your questions, and we'll figure it out together.

What if I'm embarrassed about my closet?

Please don't be.

I have seen closets of all kinds, and there is no judgment here.

Your wardrobe is a reflection of where you've been, what you've tried, what you've loved, what hasn't worked, and sometimes what you simply didn't know how to do differently.

We're not there to judge your past clothing choices. We're there to figure out what works for you now.

What if I don't like something you recommend?

Tell me!

This is your style—not mine.

My job is to use my expertise to make recommendations, explain why something may or may not work, and help you explore options. Your job is to tell me how you feel.

If you don't like it, we keep looking.

The best styling experience is a collaboration, not a makeover where someone else gets to decide who you should be.

Still Have Questions?

I'm always happy to help.

If you're wondering whether a particular service is right for you, aren't sure where to start, or simply have a question that wasn't answered here, reach out!

There's no need to have it all figured out before you contact me.

That's what I'm here for.
